Property Registration in Chennai: Updated Fees, New System, and Required Documents
In Chennai, the stamp duty on property is 7% of its market value, while the registration cost is 1%. New restrictions enacted in 2023 have boosted registration fees by more than 100%. Payments of up to Rs. 5000 can be made by demand draft at Sub Registrar offices. In 2024, the state will implement a new method for property registration in multi-story residential buildings. Property registration requires a PAN Card, identity credentials for the seller and witnesses, and passport-sized pictures.
