Mesenchymal stem cells have garnered interest from the scientific community due to their low immunogenic risk. Among many sources of mesenchymal stem cells, umbilical cord has been the most suitable source due to the non-invasive extraction of cells and easy availability. Moreover, umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells do not incorporate the aging effect on cells that is present in the stem cells isolated from other sources. Furthermore, they have higher differentiation potential in comparison to other sources of stem cells. Scientists have been employing them in the treatment of various disorders like Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, retinopathy, liver cirrhosis, pulmonary damage, etc.
